Many busi­nesses do not use the online tool Google My Busi­ness effec­ti­vely. But what is this tool for, which, let’s remem­ber, is free? To start, Google My Busi­ness is prima­rily used to claim your busi­ness on Google. In other words, when a custo­mer or pros­pect searches for your busi­ness on Google, you can control the infor­ma­tion that is displayed.

Basic infor­ma­tion

After clai­ming your busi­ness, you will be able to add seve­ral gene­ral pieces of infor­ma­tion, such as your indus­try, a descrip­tion of the busi­ness, your services, and other simple details that can be copied directly from your website. Next, you need to confirm your address, phone number, and any other infor­ma­tion that will help custo­mers locate your physi­cal busi­ness. For your opening hours, don’t forget to add in advance the times when your busi­ness will be closed, such as holi­days or off-season hours. Finally, manage the visual repre­sen­ta­tion of your busi­ness by adding your logo and images of your store.

Show promo­tions and events

When having profes­sio­nal images crea­ted by your desi­gner for a promo­tion or event, make sure to request an image in the format recom­men­ded for Google My Busi­ness. These images appear on your busi­ness listing in Google searches. If you don’t add them, images from simi­lar compe­ti­tors’ promo­tions may appear instead!

Display your products

This is a beta feature from Google, so it is not yet avai­lable for all busi­nesses. Howe­ver, if you have it, it can be very useful for your company. For example, if a custo­mer searches for a product you sell, your product can appear in searches with an image, price, and promo­tion, all linking directly to your website. It’s up to you to take the time to display your products, unlike your compe­ti­tors who won’t take the time to do so. Your products will then appear ahead of your compe­ti­tors’ pages.
